What is Wood-Based Activated Carbon?

We manufacture high-quality wood-based activated carbon which is useful for a huge range of applications. We produce our products from wood or other kinds of wood byproducts which are carbonized at extremely high temperatures before being activated. During this process the surface area of the carbon is increased which gives it the unique ability to adsorb a wide selection of pollutants and contaminants.

Using wood for our carbon process is an eco-friendly choice as the raw material is renewable which gives it an environmental advantage over other kinds of activated carbon such as coal-based. Wood-based activated carbon is ideal if you’re looking for a product that is light and strong as it can be used in applications where the weight of activated carbon plays an important factor.

Pelletized Activated Carbon

Many customers choose our wood-based activated carbon over coal-based or coconut shell carbon as it has numerous beneficial properties. Wood-based activated carbon benefits from larger pores which have the ability to adsorb a range of large organic molecules such as colorants which small pore activated carbon cannot.

Compared to coal it is a more pure product and contains less ash which in turn makes it more efficient when removing impurities. As it is a natural material it is much more compatible with treatment of water via a biofiltration system as it lets the beneficial organisms through and filters out the larger particles.

Uses of Wood-Based Activated Carbon

The larger pore structure of wood-based activated carbon makes it ideal for capturing the larger particles in airstreams. The impurities adsorbed by the material include dust, dirt, pollen, mold, dander and ash, so have an important primary role to play in an air filter.

As it has larger pores than its coconut shell and coal alternatives, it can effectively remove larger organic compounds from water treatment systems. Anything from sand and silt to sediment, algae, bacteria and tannins can be removed with wood-based activated carbon.

Wood-based activated carbon is often useful in the food and drink industry as it can remove the larger particles that give color to foods and liquids. It is used to purify wine, help with oil filtration, remove coloration from spirits like vodka, and also refine sugar.

This product shines when used in the chemical industry as it has the unique ability to remove impurities from a wide range of chemical products such as paint and coatings, textiles and solvents. It’s also useful in chemical synthesis as it ensures superior purity.
